Jamaica is set to launch an innovative insurance plan specifically designed for individuals in the entertainment and creative industries within the coming weeks.

The announcement came from the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, during the 2024/25 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.

Addressing a critical need

The plan, described as game-changing by Minister Grange, aims to resolve critical financial issues that creative practitioners face, especially in times of medical emergencies or death.

With this insurance, entertainers who previously faced the daunting challenge of covering high medical costs or funeral expenses will now have a sustainable support system.

A partnership for protection

Following a competitive bidding process, Guardian Life Insurance Company has been chosen to manage the insurance scheme.

The contract with Guardian Life is expected to be finalized shortly, marking a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to support its cultural sectors.

A model of success

The Jamaica Entertainment and Creative Industries Practitioners Insurance Plan will be similar to the Jamaica Athlete Insurance Plan. Similar in structure, it provides comprehensive coverage including Group Health, Life, and Personal Accident insurance.

This model currently benefits nearly 2,000 athletes across 35 National Sports Federations.
