Antigua and Barbuda officials confirmed that relatives of the embattled rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs were aboard his private jet when it landed in the country last week.
Ambassador Lionel Hurst, Chief of Staff at the Prime Minister’s Office, provided this update during a post-cabinet media briefing.
Speculation arose regarding Diddy’s presence in Antigua and Barbuda on Monday after two properties belonging to the rapper in Los Angeles and Miami were searched by federal Homeland Security Investigations agents and other law enforcement as part of an ongoing sex trafficking investigation.
On the same day, flight tracking data indicated that a private jet belonging to Diddy had landed in Antigua. The rapper was spotted at the Miami airport just a few hours before the jet landed in Antigua.
Family members land in Antigua
According to officials on the island, the rapper was not on the jet when it landed in Antigua.
Hurst did not say which members of Diddy’s family were visiting in an effort to preserve their privacy, prevent a spectacle, and protect Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation.
“I’m not so sure that when these people landed in Antigua, they wanted to become a public spectacle. I think privacy is one of the things they seek to have and it’s not in the best interest of Antigua and Barbuda to speak about folks who choose to come here for privacy and then we are blasting it all over the media,” Hurst commented.
Hurst said Diddy and his family are free to visit Antigua and Barbuda whenever they desire.
“We take the attitude that until you are proven guilty of something, you are innocent,” he stated, adding it is up to the United States government and judicial system to decide Diddy’s fate.
Hurst noted that Antigua and Barbuda is “happy to help” the United States with any information that it requires in its case against Diddy.
Diddy’s black Gulfstream G550 returned to the United States late last week but it’s unclear whether members of his family were onboard.
