This significant accomplishment was highlighted by Hon. Franklin Witter, Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Mining, during the 10th staging of the St. Ann Agricultural, Industrial, and Food Show on April 26.

A major contribution to national production

Minister Witter emphasized the magnitude of St. Ann’s contribution, noting that it represents approximately 11.5 per cent of the total domestic production for the year.

This achievement underscores the pivotal role played by the parish’s 170,000 farmers in bolstering food security and sustainability efforts across the island.

Exceeding expectations despite challenges

Despite facing adverse weather conditions, including the impact of climate change, St. Ann’s farmers demonstrated remarkable resilience.

Minister Witter praised their exceptional performance in Irish potato production, highlighting their ability to surpass national and global averages.

Embracing agriculture in a changing climate

Under the theme ‘Embracing agriculture by adapting to climate change,’ the show underscored the importance of resilience and innovation in confronting the challenges posed by climate change.
