Smart 50 Awards, in partnership with Smart Cities Connect, Smart Cities Connect Foundation and US Ignite annually recognize global smart cities projects, honoring the most innovative, transformative, and influential work.

Miramar has been recognized for the City’s Smart Water Meter project implemented by the utility department and the Building Energy Management Systems project carried out by the Public Works department.

The purpose of the global competition is to “recognize the 50 best examples of smart cities at work this year by highlighting specific projects with real municipal-scale results.” In addition to nationwide winners, the City of Miramar falls among winners from the international community, which includes Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, Chile, Israel, Bulgaria, Spain, and Sweden.

City representatives have been invited to attend the 2021 Smart 50 Awards Gala in Washington, D.C., this October during the 2021 Smart Cities Connect Conference and Expo.

City Manager Vernon Hargray stated, “Our Public Works and Utilities staff have been working for many years to implement smart city solutions, which allow Miramar to provide high-quality, efficient services to its stakeholders through the utilization of the latest technological advances. Congratulations to both departments on a win-win that showcases why It’s Right Here In Miramar—the City of Beauty and Progress!”

Mayor Wayne Messam added, “It is quite exciting to be selected for two global awards recognizing the innovation and smart city concepts of our city. I am so proud of our hard-working staff who continue to implement smart city solutions for the benefit of our residents and community.”
