A New Jersey federal judge has handed down a 60-month prison sentence to a Guyanese national, Dennis “Death” Edwards, for his involvement in a conspiracy to smuggle drugs into the US.

Court records reveal that Edwards, 38, was implicated in a 2012 scheme to bring cocaine into the country via cruise ships.

Beyond his 5-year prison term, US District Judge Noel Hillman ordered Edwards to undergo three years of supervised release.
In a statement yesterday, US Attorney Philip Sellinger said Edwards previously pleaded “to superseding information charging him with one count of conspiring to import over 20 kilograms of cocaine into the United States.”
Edwards’ arrest
Edwards was arrested on November 14, 2022, when he arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport after having been deported from the Dominican Republic.
