On Tuesday, renowned dancehall artiste Mad Cobra, legally known as Ewart Everton Brown, was apprehended following a traffic stop in Florence County, South Carolina.
Authorities found two kilograms of cocaine in his vehicle, leading to his arrest, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
Brown has been charged with cocaine trafficking and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
According to an official statement from the Florence County Sheriff’s Department, deputies pulled over the 55-year-old Fort Lauderdale, Florida resident, operating a black BMW SUV, for exceeding the speed limit.
After stopping Brown, deputies purportedly had “reasonable suspicion” of illegal activity.
Consequently, they requested Brown’s permission to search his vehicle. During the examination, the law enforcement officers found two kilograms of cocaine and a 9mm Beretta.
Following his arrest, Brown was detained and is presently housed at the Florence County Detention Center, awaiting his bond hearing.
Mad Cobra, who commanded the dancehall scene in the 90s, experienced a recent resurgence in popularity.
His hit ‘Flex’ was sampled in ‘Lipstick Lover,’ the latest single from American singer-actress Janelle Monae.
