Discover Young Island: A private island resort in the Caribbean

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to stay on a private Caribbean island, the privately owned Young Island in the eastern Caribbean will make your dreams come true.

Located just 200 yards from the southern coast of St. Vincent, this private island oasis offers a haven of luxury and tranquility amidst lush tropical surroundings. Young Island can only be reached by a small ferry that travels regularly to and from St. Vincent.

The island has only one accommodation: the 13-acre Young Island Resort, which features 29 charming cottages, each exuding retro-Bohemian flair with furnishings of bamboo, wicker, and rattan, complemented by refreshing outdoor garden showers. Not all rooms have A/C, relying instead on large walls of louvered blinds, and none have televisions or telephones.

Room rates start at around $280, and daily rates include breakfast. You may add on lunch at $50, dinner at $100, and drinks at $100 (excluding bottled wine/champagne and top-shelf liquor) daily.

Young Island activities

Each day on Young Island offers the ultimate blend of relaxation and adventure.

Take advantage of the island’s chill atmosphere and lounge upon the pristine beaches, cocktail in hand, or unwind by the pool amidst breathtaking island vistas. You can dive into the vibrant underwater world with snorkeling and diving excursions, discovering a kaleidoscope of marine life beneath the surface.

For the adventurous spirit, activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding are available. You can even go hiking to take in the sweeping views of the historic Fort Duvernette nearby.

After a day of adventure, treat yourself to unparalleled pampering at the spa at Young Island, where indulgent spa treatments infused with indigenous island botanicals await, rejuvenating both body and soul.

Culinary delights

No visit to Young Island is complete without savoring the culinary delights that await. Delight in local specialties such as freshly caught fish and lobster, expertly prepared and served alongside a bounty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and sophisticated dishes featuring fish, lamb, beef, pork, and chicken. The menu, inspired by Continental and regional Caribbean cuisine, is thoughtfully curated to showcase the freshest ingredients, ensuring a culinary journey that tantalizes the taste buds with each bite.

There is also the swim-up Coconut Bar, where refreshing tipples await, including the signature Coconut Delight infused with local red rum. And Saturdays come alive with BBQ nights, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of a live steel band, creating an atmosphere of festivity and fun.

CNW Travel Tip: For a short visit, get a day pass at just $120, granting access to a Superior Cottage from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., lunch for two, and full use of beach facilities.
