Role of Distinction for Carl Bradshaw
Jamaican actor Carl Bradshaw, whose role as Jose in The Harder They Come made him world-famous, will receive the Order of Distinction in Jamaica’s national honors ceremony this year.
The announcement was made recently by the Jamaican government.
Bradshaw, a former 400 meters runner for Jamaica, shone in the part as Jose, antagonist to Jimmy Cliff’s Ivan in director Perry Henzell’s sensational 1972 film.
He has appeared in just about every film produced in Jamaica since then, including Smile Orange and The Lunatic.
The OD is Jamaica’s sixth highest honor.
South Florida’s Lloyd Stanbury
Popular South Florida entertainment lawyer Lloyd Stanbury is
also among the recipients. Stanbury, who has advised a number of top dancehall and reggae acts, will also receive the Order of Distinction for his contribution to the country’s music industry.
The annual National Honours and Awards ceremony takes place on October 16 at King’s House, in Kingston, the Jamaica capital.
Stanbury has represented acts such as Steely and Clevie and Sly and Robbie. In recent years, he has advised acts including Protoje and Chronixx.
This year, the government has awarded legendary singer/songwriter Bunny Wailer the Order of Merit, the country’s third highest civic honor. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, Wailer’s
former colleagues in The Wailers, are also holders of the OM.
Carlos Malcolm
Another South Florida resident whose work is being recognized is Carlos Malcolm, who led the influential Afro-Jamaicans band in the 1960s.
Others in the arts and entertainment industry who will also receive awards are: Robert Russell (Order of Distinction); Professor Keith
Morrison (Order of Distinction); Copeland Forbes (Order of Distinction); Rosina Moder (Order of Distinction); Ferdinand “Bobby Little Bra” Gaynair, Order of Distinction.
