He founded Lasco Distributors Ltd in 1988.

The business giant received Jamaica’s fourth highest civilian honor, the Order of Jamaica, in 2001.

He was also awarded two honorary degrees- Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Humane Letters- from the University of Technology, Jamaica, and Northern Caribbean University, respectively.

Both Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding recognized Chin for his great impact.

Holness described him as a “visionary leader and advocate for change” whose legacy will forever inspire Jamaicans.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Jamaican business giant and philanthropist, Lascelles Chin. His entrepreneurial prowess transformed Lasco into a household name, while his philanthropy uplifted countless lives,” Holness said on his social media pages.
