Granger, who arrived in Cuba on October 30, underwent the tests immediately after he arrived in that country.

Receiving treatment

“The President is receiving treatment at the Centro de Investigaciones Medico Quirugicas (CIMEQ) in Havana. Clinical analyses are still incomplete, and it is expected the Guyana Embassy in Havana will issue a statement when enough evidence is available,” the Ministry said in a statement.

It added that the President has responded satisfactorily to medical interventions over the past week recovering well.

Assures citizens

“President Granger wishes to assure all citizens that he is receiving the best possible medical advice and attention. The President wishes to thank Guyanese for their expressions of concern.”

Last month, the Ministry of the Presidency announced Granger’s visit to Havana but gave no details,  only saying that he would be accompanied by his wife.

However, the Guyana-based online publication, Demerara Waves Online News quoted   Minister of Social Development, Amma Ally as indicating that the Head of State is going to Cuba for a medical “investigation”.

“I’m sure that you would have heard that he is not well and that he is going to do an investigation as to what might be his problem,” she then told Demerara Waves Online News.

Last month, the 73 year-old Granger made a private visit to Trinidad.  He and his wife had gone there earlier this year for what government had said had been an annual medical check-up.
