Trinidad and Tobago set to sign off on regional cargo ferry service

Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, has announced plans for the signing of a regional cargo ferry service.

It is reported that the ferry service will serve the Twin Island Republic as well as Guyana and Barbados.

The cabinet will sign off on the ferry service on Thursday.

Streamlining cross-border logistics

Dr. Rowley emphasized that the primary objective of this endeavor is to expedite the seamless flow of goods among these three nations.

He said that by addressing logistical challenges and reducing bottlenecks, the ferry service intends to facilitate the efficient movement of raw materials and fresh produce from production hubs to vital consumption and manufacturing zones within this CARICOM subzone.

Nurturing food security and economic prosperity

With an eye on bolstering food security, stimulating regional production, and promoting job creation, Dr. Rowley underscores the multifaceted benefits of this transportation service.

It is anticipated that the service will improve food security, stimulate production across the region, create jobs and support affordable prices of desired agricultural products.
