Senator Morris Dixon shared her insights into the nation’s digital transformation journey during her keynote address at the Jamaica Technology and Digital Alliance (JTDA) BizTech Conference on Tuesday, November 14.

Visionary leadership sets the stage

Senator Morris Dixon emphasized the pivotal role of visionary leadership in realizing Jamaica’s digital future. 

She highlighted the significance of establishing a dedicated Ministry for digital transformation and skills development within the Office of the Prime Minister as a testament to the Prime Minister’s profound commitment to embracing a digital era.

Drawing inspiration from Rwanda’s success

Drawing inspiration from Rwanda’s remarkable digital transformation journey, Senator Morris Dixon underscored the importance of learning from successful models in developing countries. 

She revealed that she had engaged in meaningful discussions with her Rwandan counterpart to dissect the elements that propelled their digital evolution.

A collective responsibility towards a digital Jamaica

The Minister stressed that every Jamaican plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s digital future. She echoed the Administration’s clear vision of a Jamaica where technology transcends being merely a tool to becoming a way of life. 

Universal digital literacy, widespread innovation, and accessible technology benefits form the core of this vision.

Combatting the spread of digital misinformation

Senator Morris Dixon acknowledged the growing concern about conspiracy theories disseminated through digital channels.
