City of Miami officers in disagreement over Beyonce concert
Black Miami officers of the Miami Community Police Benevolent Association are protesting the Beyonce concert boycott called for by the Miami Fraternal Order of Police.
Association president Ella Moore objected to the “thinly veiled racist overtones” of the Order’s claims that Beyonce’s recent Super Bowl performance was “hate speech” against cops.
Despite the conflict, there will be enough police officers to provide securing during Beyoncé’s concert, said Miami police Maj. Deloris Moss.
“We fully intend to do everything in our power to ensure the safety of all who wish to enjoy events in Miami,” Moss said.
Beyoncé, a global superstar who has mobilized fans around the Black Lives Matter movement without a single protest speech, recently drew the ire of a police group that says it will refuse to attend her coming concert in Miami.

The Miami Fraternal Order of Police said in a statement that that it had voted to let its members boycott the show, scheduled for April 27, because it believed Beyoncé had used this year’s Super Bowl halftime show “to divide Americans by promoting the Black Panthers.” The group called for other law enforcement organizations to boycott her concerts as well.
During the halftime show, Beyoncé and her dancers wore outfits widely perceived to be reminiscent of the Black Panther movement, down to the black berets. Afterward, her dancers also joined Black Lives Matter activists in holding uo a sign demanding justice for Mario Woods, a 26-year-old black man who was shot more than 15 times by police officers in San Francisco after he slashed a stranger in the face.
