Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Tuesday that the former Trinidad & Tobago Red Force and West Indies spinner will be part of the support staff for the series against South Africa that includes three One-day and three Twenty20 Internationals.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be asked by CWI to join the team and work with this great group of players in South Africa for the white ball leg of the tour,” Badree said.

“I look forward to catching up with the players, some who I played with and most I already know, as we seek to acquit ourselves well on what is expected to be a challenging tour of South Africa.

“I also look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences with the players as we look to bring some positive results to our loyal fans.”

Badree previously assisted CWI as a spin bowling consultant, and he has worked in coaching roles in the Indian Premier League. He has also been a TV pundit.

“I’m happy that Samuel is going to be spending time with our white ball teams in South Africa,” CWI’s director of cricket, Jimmy Adams said.

“He brings plenty of international experience and a strong desire to assist our slow bowlers in becoming world class. We believe this combination makes him ideally placed to add tremendous value to our support staff in South Africa, and specifically for our slow bowlers.”

Samuel Badree was part of the West Indies squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2012 in Sri Lanka, and four years later in India.

He played 52 T20Is between 2012 and 2018, collecting 56 wickets, and he was once ranked the world No. 1 bowler in the T20 format.

West Indies face South Africa in ODIs on March 16 and 18 at Buffalo Park in East London, and March 21 at J.B. Marks Oval in Potchefstroom before playing three T20Is on March 25 and 26 at Centurion Park in Pretoria, and March 28 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
