President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, will become the first Cuban leader to visit Belize when he arrives in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country on February 12 on an official visit.
According to an official statement the Cuban leader will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister John Briceño, as well as sign two agreements, however the statement did not elaborate.
President Díaz-Canel will also address a sitting of the National Assembly.
Noting “the visit will mark the first by a Cuban President to Belize, the statement did not indicate how long the president will be in the CARICOM country.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez who was elected in 2018 is the leader of the nation’s communist party, a post to which he was appointed in 2021 following the resignation of Raul Castro, ending the era of formal leadership by the Castros, which began with Cuba’s 1959 revolution.
