Kavian Kerr Scores Bronze for Jamaica in Long Jump at World U-20 Athletics

Jamaica won its second medal at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, on Friday when Kavian Kerr secured bronze in the men’s long jump.

The Jamaican leaped to a personal best 7.90m inside the Kasarani Stadium, as France’s Erwan Konate copped gold with a lifetime best of 8.12m, with Jhon Berrio of Colombia taking second place with a personal best of 7.97m.

The other Jamaican in the final Jordan Turner could fare no better than ninth after leaping 7.13m.

Earlier in the morning session, Ackera Nugent and Oneka Wilson advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles with wins in 13.35secs and 13.36secs, respectively. On the men’s side, Vashaun Vascianna was also a winner in the heats of the men’s 110m hurdles in a season’s best 13.37secs to book his semi-final spot.

In the women’s 200m, Brianna Lyston and Aaliyah Francis booked their semi-final places. Lyston was easy in winning in 23.18secs, while Francis was made to work harder for her place in the semis when she finished third in 24.06s.

Bryan Levell, who false-started in 100m semi-finals, won his heat and advanced to the semi-finals in 20.90secs, but Gregory Prince failed to advance in the morning session as he finished eighth in 21.53secs.

Shantae Foreman qualified through to Sunday’s final of the women’s long jump with a best effort of 6.27m which she managed with just one legal jump.
