Interim President Hardrick advocates for FMU on Capitol Hill

Washington, D.C. is the place where power, influence, resources, and relationships converge. Florida Memorial University (FMU) Interim President Jaffus Hardrick traveled to the nation’s capital to participate in the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) Annual Legislative Conference (ALC). During the conference, Dr. Hardrick is advocating the cause of and cultivating critical relationships with federal officials on behalf of South Florida’s only historically Black university. The president participated in the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project: Panel 1 – America to Me: Addressing the School to Prison Pipeline. U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson hosted the panel. The Rev. Al Sharpton moderated the discussion.

“At FMU, we are passionate about our students and our institution offering them a promise and a future,” said Dr. Hardrick. “As we elevate FMU to greater heights, it is critical we ensure FMU is on the national legislative agenda and that we cultivate future relations with our nation’s leaders.”

CBCF ALC is the leading policy conference on issues impacting African-Americans and the global Black community. Thought leaders, legislators, and concerned citizens engage on economic development, civil and social justice, public health and education issues. More than 9,000 people attend 70 public policy forums and much more. Join subject experts, industry leaders, elected officials and citizen activists to explore today’s issues from an African-American perspective.

These actions and efforts are a part of the Hardrick Administration’s five-pronged approach to optimizing FMU:

  1. Student success
  2. Academic quality
  3. Financial solvency
  4. Relationship development
  5. Operational excellence
