Jamaican Association of Miami-Dade Educators (JADE) in 2018

The Jamaican Association of Miami-Dade Educators (JADE) will be commemorating its twenty-fourth anniversary as a 501 © (3) non-profit service organization this year by hosting its Annual Scholarship Award Banquet on May 5, at the Miami Marriott Dadeland Hotel. The event will commence at 8:30 P.M. The highlight of the evening will be the introduction of the scholarship winners. They will be given an opportunity to tell the audience about themselves, their philosophy of life and their career aspirations.

Cover charge for the event is $65, which includes plated dinner, dessert and Starbuck coffee. There will be a cash bar conveniently located in the Banquet Hall. At the conclusion of the Program, Cosmic Force will provide the music for the party.

Last year four deserving students were awarded scholarships totaling $4,000. Each recipient was given $1,000. Those winners included Selena Garcia, Kay-Ann Henry, Janellia James, and Cassandra Saint.

In addition to the Annual Scholarship Award Banquet in Miami, JADE has a history of selecting a school in Jamaica, and presenting students and teachers with school supplies, as well as electronic equipment such as computers and televisions. In recent years, gifts to the students include clothes, such as shoes and socks, toiletries including soaps, toothbrushes and toothpastes. JADE outreach in Jamaica in the past included donations and/or resources to ILead Program in Education, West Haven Children’s Home in Hanover, Lucea Library in Hanover.

For the first time this year, JADE offered scholarships to two students in Jamaica. One of the winners, a high school student, Angel Hilton, received $500 (U.S.) and Roshaun Thompson, a student at U.W.I. was the recipient of $1,000.

JADE is indeed grateful to all of its sponsors who have been instrumental for making it possible to touch the lives of so many individuals.
