Dillard Center for the Arts students selected to attend prestigious GRAMMY Camp – Jazz Session

Broward County Public Schools Dillard Center for the Arts (DCA) students, Kieran Hitsman (Tamarac) and Summer Camargo (Hollywood), are two of only 18 talented high school students from across the United States selected for the prestigious 2018 GRAMMY Camp – Jazz Session, January 23 – 29, 2018. Their selection launches them into the spotlight surrounding the 60thAnnual GRAMMY Awards.

 Seven-day musical adventure

The students, who are members of the nationally renowned and award winning DCA Jazz Ensemble, will travel to New York City for a seven-day musical adventure. The program provides students with unparalleled opportunities to rehearse, record and perform with their fellow Jazz Session members and some of the music industry’s biggest names. The young musicians, Kieran on tenor sax and Summer on trumpet, will also participate in recording an album (GRAMMY Jazz 26).

 To perform at GRAMMY Week events

The students will perform at various GRAMMY Week events, including GRAMMY In The Schools Live! on January 25, with special guest performer Jon Batiste, an internationally acclaimed musician, composer and bandleader on The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert. The students will showcase their talents in additional public performances and attend the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast on January 28 as guests of the Recording Academy. Their final performance will be at a GRAMMY after-party celebration.

 GRAMMY Camp – Jazz Session members are eligible for more than $2 million in college scholarships made possible through the GRAMMY Museum’s college partners: Berklee College of Music, Manhattan School of Music, The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and USC Thornton School of Music.
