The state of Florida forked over more than $11 million to settle over 300 complaints filed by women and men who alleged sexual harassment in the past 30 years.
Complaint against Florida Legislature
The list, released Monday following a Freedom of Information request
filed by The News Service of Florida, contains one payment for $165,000 to a woman who filed a sexual harassment complaint against the Florida Legislature. The harassment occurred in 1994 and payment was made three years later.
$1.3 million largest payment
The largest payment on the list, $1.3 million, was made as part of a class-action lawsuit against the Department of Corrections filed by nurses who worked for the department and alleged harassment in 2001. The payment was made in 2007.
In addition to state agencies, the list also shows allegations of sexual harassment were made at seven of the 12 state universities including the Florida State University, the University of Florida and Florida A&M University.
