Two inmates have been stabbed at the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF), in a week.
The latest incident occurred on Saturday at around 9.20 am when inmate Valence James sustained about 13 stab wounds.
Stabbed during recreation time
James was allegedly attacked by his cellmate, Michael Pologne, on the upper tier of the Bravo Unit after both were allowed out of their cell for recreation.
The injured inmate was escorted to the BCF Medical Unit for initial medical attention and later to the Dennery Hospital for further treatment.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
Last Saturday a BCF inmate, identified as Emmerson Dornelly, was stabbed in the chest and lower abdomen and was admitted to the St Jude Hospital.
Inmate shot after attacking prison officials
Police reported that Dornelly and another inmate, identified as Junior Duncan, were involved in an altercation when the stabbing took place in the maximum security section of the prison.
Duncan was one of the two inmates involved in an attack on another prisoner at the BCF in June this year.
Prison officials said Duncan was shot when he and the other attacker turned on a response team.
The officials said he later attempted to commit suicide by swallowing a number of pills that were given to him as part of the treatment for his gunshot wound.
