American actor and television director, Andrew McCarthy, will deliver the feature address at the three-day climate smart sustainable tourism forum that gets underway in St Kitts and Nevis early next month.
The September 6-8 event is being organized by the Ministry of Tourism in St. Kitts/Nevis and the Barbados-based Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). Also collaborating is the St. Kitts Sustainable Destination Council and Sustainable Travel International.
Climate adaptation
The conference will bring together local, regional, and international representatives from public and private sector tourism entities, as well as development agencies and will be held under the theme “Climate adaptation.”
The organizers said that the major elements of the forum will include best practice sharing and strategic consultations for a CTO climate adaptation project funded by the Caribbean Development Bank. The purpose is to strengthen holistic destination management approaches in the Caribbean.
They said the program will also include experiential field visits, a meeting of CTO’s Sustainable Tourism Technical Committee, and winning presentations from CTO’s Primary School Tourism Writing Competition.
The event culminates with the presentation ceremony for CTO’s 2017 Sustainable Tourism Awards, which recognize regional sustainability champions
