World’s Fastest woman coming to South Florida Jamaican Food Festival
Jamaican double sprint 2016 Olympic champion Elaine Thompson will be one of the featured guest at the 15th Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival on Sunday, November 13, at Markham Park in Sunrise.
Thompson, in convincing form, won the 100 and 200 meter sprints at Rio Olympics, and also won a silver medal as a member of the Jamaican 4 x 100 m relay team.
Following the Olympics she continued her gold medal performances several Diamond League meets across Europe.
Thompson is the Jamaican National Record Holder in the 100m and the 4th fastest woman to run the 100m in world track and field history.
Although Thompson has replaced her compatriot Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce, the darling of Jamaican track and field, she is nonetheless extremely popular with Jamaicans at home and in the Diaspora, and her appearance at the popular Jerk Festival will be eagerly anticipated.
International Freight Consolidation, a Jamaican-American business in South Florida are one of the sponsor responsible for bringing Thompson to South Florida to appear at the food festival. John Collins, Managing Director of International Freight Consolidators was quoted as saying, “we are extremely happy to be able to assist with bringing Elaine to the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival and have her meet the lovely people of South Florida.”
At the festival patrons will have an opportunity to meet and greet as well as take photographs with the Olympic Champion.
Attending a food festival is very pertinent to Thompson who is also currently pursuing a course in Food Service Management and Culinary Arts at the University of Technology in Jamaica.
There are speculations that the Olympic champion could be featured in one of the highlights of the annual Jerk Festival, the Publix Culinary Pavilion, where, traditionally, celebrities show off their culinary skills in cooking spicy Jamaican Jerk dishes.
The Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival provides an avenue for patrons from all sectors of the community to share in the rich culture of the Caribbean.
Gates to the event open at 10 a.m. on November 13, and featured entertainer will be popular Jamaican reggae artists Shaggy.
