Authorities say the 35-year-old athlete was taken into custody at an airport in Broward County and booked on a fraud — insufficient funds check charge. He is being held on an out-of-state hold, and as of Monday morning, no bond had been set.

Morris, a 13-year NBA veteran, has played for several teams since being selected as the 14th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. After starting his professional career in Houston, the power forward had stints with the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and most recently the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers during the 2023–2024 season.

Over the course of his career, Morris has averaged 12 points and 4.4 rebounds per game across 832 appearances.

This is not Morris’ first brush with the law. In 2012, he entered a diversion program following a battery charge, and in 2015, he was acquitted of assault charges related to an alleged brawl.

Booking records released by Florida authorities included a mugshot showing Morris staring blankly into the camera, without expression. His brother and fellow NBA player, Markieff “Keef” Morris, posted a cryptic message on social media Sunday in apparent response to the arrest.

As of now, no formal statement has been released by Morris or his legal team.
