The award is one of MIPAD’s highest honors, reserved for leaders of African descent whose influence has created a lasting, transformative impact across generations.

Dr. Drew announced the nomination during a national press conference on July 22, stating:

“I have been nominated to receive recognition by MIPAD, which is connected to the United Nations, to honour or to recognize leaders of African descent who are making significant strides to advance African peoples in the world. I think I will be the only Prime Minister in the region to do that.”

The recognition comes amid Dr. Drew’s efforts to elevate St. Kitts and Nevis on the world stage through his Sustainable Island State Agenda. Under his leadership, the twin-island nation has prioritized deepening ties with Africa, accelerating the green energy transition, modernizing infrastructure, expanding access to healthcare, and pursuing inclusive economic growth.

Reflecting on the honor, Dr. Drew added,

Dr. Drew joins a distinguished group of global changemakers who have previously received MIPAD’s Lifetime Achievement distinction, including former U.S. President Barack Obama, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, and WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus.
