Prime Minister Andrew Holness has extended warm congratulations to Jamaican media personality and attorney Khadine “Miss Kitty” Wilkinson and legendary group Morgan Heritage following their recent recognition in the United States.
Both were awarded the Key to the City of Tamarac, Florida, and received a Congressional Proclamation honoring her outstanding contributions to Caribbean culture.
The accolades were presented during Tamarac’s inaugural Yard on the Lawn Music Festival, a vibrant event celebrating Caribbean heritage and drawing thousands of attendees from across Florida. It was spearheaded by Commissioner Marlon Bolton.
In his statement, Prime Minister Holness said, “Congratulations to Khadine “Miss Kitty” Wilkinson on receiving the Key to the City of Tamarac and a Congressional Proclamation in the United States. We are immensely proud of Mrs. Wilkinson. Her continued achievements inspire all Jamaicans to strive for excellence, give back to their communities, and represent our country with pride.”
In a seperate statement congratulating Morgan Heritage, he said: “This well-deserved recognition honours their decades-long contribution to Reggae music and their powerful messages of unity, peace, and cultural pride. Through iconic songs like “Down by the River,” Morgan Heritage has carried the soul of Jamaica across the globe, uplifting audiences and reminding the world of the strength and spirit of our people.”
Their recognition in Tamarac underscores their important roles as champions of Caribbean arts and culture. The Congressional Proclamation, presented by U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick, further highlights their influence and dedication.
Commissioner Bolton remarked, ”We are proud to honor Morgan Heritage and Miss Kitty for their tireless efforts in promoting and preserving Caribbean culture and heritage. Their contributions have not only enriched our community but have also inspired a new generation of artists and cultural enthusiasts. Today, we celebrate their achievements and acknowledge the impact they have had on our city.”
Congresswoman Cherfilus McCormick added, “Morgan Heritage and Miss Kitty are true ambassadors of Caribbean culture, and their work deserves recognition at the highest level.
