After winning the toss, the Texas Super Kings unleashed a batting blitz that powered them to 223 for four in their allotted 20 overs.
Captain Faf du Plessis led the charge with an unbeaten 103 off 53 balls, threading five fours and nine towering sixes. His explosive stand alongside Donovan Ferreira—who thrashed 53 from merely 20 deliveries, including five sixes—yielded an 81-run partnership in just five overs. MI New York’s George Linde (2-42) and Rushil Ugarkar (2-47) offered resistance, but the Super Kings’ onslaught left them trailing from the outset.
Spin wizardry from Akeal Hosein
Chasing 224 for victory, MI New York’s hopes unraveled under the guile of left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein. He scythed through the top order to finish with career-best figures of 3–15 from four overs. Quinton de Kock (35), Monank Patel (6) and Tajinder Singh (15) fell to his flighted deliveries, reducing MI to 75 for four by the halfway mark. Hosein’s miserly economy strangled any momentum, shifting the contest firmly back into Super Kings’ favor.
In the middle overs, veteran Kieron Pollard attempted to ignite a comeback with a whirlwind 70 off 39 balls—crunching five fours and as many sixes. Yet by the time Pollard departed, MI New York still required an insurmountable 69 runs from the final five overs. The deficit proved too great; each boundary only trimmed the gap marginally, and the required run rate soared beyond reach.
Support from the Super Kings’ bowlers closed out the rout. Nandre Butcher (2-40) and Marcus Stoinis (2-43) each claimed two wickets, ensuring MI’s chase stalled at 184 for nine. The 39-run triumph not only underscored Texas’s balanced attack but also punched their ticket to the 2025 Major League Cricket playoffs, where they will vie for the championship crown.
