The Government of Jamaica says it is closely monitoring the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and is strongly advising Jamaican nationals to avoid non-essential travel to the region. The warning comes amid escalating tensions and rising instability, particularly in countries experiencing armed conflict or civil unrest.
The Bahamas has also issued a similar advisory for its citizens.
In a statement, the Jamaica Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade listed the State of Israel, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, and the Islamic Republic of Iran as high-risk destinations. Jamaicans currently residing in or planning to transit through these and other affected areas are being urged to exercise extreme caution and take a range of precautionary measures.
These include remaining vigilant, ensuring travel documents are up to date, complying with safety directives from local authorities, identifying nearby emergency shelters, and formulating contingency plans for departure if necessary. Nationals are also reminded that airport closures, airspace restrictions, and border shutdowns may occur without prior notice.
The Ministry confirmed that, at present, there are no verified reports of Jamaicans in Israel, Palestine, or Iran. However, it is aware of Jamaicans living in Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Government says it remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of its nationals and stands ready to provide consular support as needed. Jamaicans with relatives or friends currently in the region are being encouraged to contact the Ministry via email at consular@mfaft.gov.jm or WhatsApp at (876) 391-8105.
