Broward County is inviting public input on its Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) triennial goal-setting process for airport and transit projects slated to receive federal funding. The online DBE Public Comment Survey is now officially open and will remain accessible through Friday, July 18, 2025.
This process essentially helps make sure small and disadvantaged businesses get a fair chance to work on important airport and transit projects funded by the federal government.
The survey aims to gather feedback from business owners—whether DBE-certified or not—along with industry groups, contractors, suppliers, consultants, and other stakeholders with interest in federally funded aviation and transit projects.
The comment period follows two public stakeholder meetings hosted by the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD). Recordings of those sessions are available online, and participants are encouraged to review them before responding.
The U.S. Department of Transportation mandates that all recipients of federal grants under the DBE Program submit their participation goals for review every three years. Broward County’s new DBE goals will apply to contracts issued between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2028.
“Our goal-setting process involves multiple stakeholder meetings and a public comment period providing the best opportunity for OESBD to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs as we continue our mission to create opportunities for small businesses,” said OESBD Director Sandy-Michael E. McDonald. “I encourage business owners to participate by taking the survey and providing feedback, and also by learning more about how to do business with Broward County.”
The proposed DBE goals and their methodologies are available for public review at the OESBD office located at 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Room A-680, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, from Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for a 30-day period starting today.
