Stranahan High School has resumed normal operations following a lockdown earlier today prompted by a threat that police now believe was a case of “swatting.”
According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, officers responded to the school at approximately 11:45 a.m. after a threat was received by the Fort Lauderdale Police School Resource Office. As a precaution, the school, located at 1800 SW 5th Place, was placed on lockdown while authorities thoroughly searched the premises.
By 2:25 p.m., police had cleared the school grounds and confirmed that no actual threat was found. A preliminary investigation suggests the incident was a swatting—an intentional hoax designed to trigger a large emergency response.
Despite the all-clear, there will be an increased police presence in the area during school dismissal as a precaution. Student pick-up will proceed at the regularly scheduled time and location.
Earlier in the day, a media staging area was established at the north side of West Broward Boulevard and SW 18th Avenue, although no public information officer was dispatched to the scene.
