Cricket West Indies (CWI) has unveiled the eagerly awaited schedule for the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team’s tour of the West Indies, slated to run from January 14 to February 1, 2025.
This action-packed series, featuring three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is), will take center stage at the legendary Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts.
The Bangladesh squad is set to arrive on January 14, with the ODI series kicking off on January 19. The three-match series will continue on January 21 and conclude on January 24. The battle will then shift to the T20I format, with electrifying encounters scheduled for January 27, 29, and 31.
A platform for high-stakes cricket
Warner Park, a storied venue in West Indies cricket history, will once again become the epicenter of riveting cricket action. Lynford Inverary, CWI’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the venue’s legacy and its importance for the sport’s development in the region.
“Warner Park has long been a significant venue for West Indies cricket, and we are pleased to host the Bangladesh Women’s team for this series,” Inverary remarked. “These matches not only provide a platform for high-quality cricket but also contribute to the development of the sport in St. Kitts and the wider Leeward Islands. We encourage the local fans to come out in full support, creating an electrifying atmosphere throughout the series.”
Key series for World Cup aspirations
The ODI leg of the tour carries immense weight for the West Indies Women’s campaign in the 2025 ICC 50-over Women’s Championship. With automatic qualification for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at stake, every match will be pivotal.
Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket, underscored the series’ critical role in shaping the team’s 2025 strategies. “This series against Bangladesh is crucial for us as we continue our campaign in the 2025 ICC 50-over Women’s Championship. The ODI series carries significant weight for our World Cup qualification hopes, while the T20I matches will provide valuable preparation as we continue to build depth in our squad,” Bascombe stated.
“We expect competitive cricket from both teams, and these matches will be vital for assessing our progress and fine-tuning our strategies for the challenges ahead in 2025,” he added.
Building depth and engaging fans
As part of the preparation, both teams will benefit from rigorous practice sessions, including morning, afternoon, and select evening slots. These sessions are designed to ensure top-notch performances on match days.
Inverary expressed optimism about the local community’s involvement, urging fans to pack the stands and energize the players. Ticketing and broadcast details will be shared in the coming weeks, offering fans a chance to witness the action live or from the comfort of their homes.
