Following her recent track Open Heart, this new release continues her exploration of themes like submission, attraction, love, and fantasy, all delivered with a playful yet mature tone.

Produced by J.L.L., whose credits include collaborations with Drake, Smino, and Masego, Match blends reggae roots with layered harmonics, unveiling a bold and risqué side of Jah9. The single is part of her Open Heart Project, a four-part series that examines the evolution of relationships from inception to reconciliation.

“‘Match’ is a song about courtship, new love, and the standards by which we make these choices,” Jah9 explained. “It’s an ode to the freedom a woman feels to fully express herself in the presence of the right kind of man.”

Accompanied by a self-directed music video, Match presents an intimate visual narrative, rich with sensuality and vulnerability. This video is the first in a series that aims to deepen fans’ connection with the music through storytelling.

Jah9, celebrated for her albums New Name (2013), 9 (2016), and Note to Self (2020), has consistently pushed the boundaries of reggae. She also co-wrote and co-produced Kabaka Pyramid’s The Kalling, which won the 2023 Grammy for Best Reggae Album, further cementing her influence in the genre.

The release of Match comes on the heels of Jah9’s successful “Jah9 in Japan” tour this October and November. Performing in nearly a dozen cities—including Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima—she introduced her unique live shows to Japanese audiences for the first time.

Match is now available on all major streaming platforms. Fans can listen here.
