St. John’s, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has unveiled its formidable Test squad for the upcoming two-match home series against Bangladesh.
Spanning from November 22 to December 4, this pivotal series in Antigua and Jamaica promises to showcase the team’s depth and ambition as they aim to capitalize on home conditions and conclude the World Test Championship with a flourish.
Under the steady leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite, the 15-man squad boasts a strategic mix of seasoned campaigners and fresh talent. Among the most exciting inclusions is Justin Greaves, whose electrifying performances in the CG United Super50 Cup, including three sensational centuries, have made him impossible to overlook. “Greaves has demonstrated the power of domestic cricket to groom the next generation of stars,” a CWI spokesperson commented.
Kevin Sinclair also returns to bolster the squad, while the absence of all-rounder Jason Holder due to shoulder rehabilitation is a notable miss. Head Coach Andre Coley expressed optimism, saying, “We expect the series against Bangladesh to be a competitive one between two emerging squads.”
Test preparations begin with crucial warm-up match
Before the Test series officially kicks off, the CWI Select XI, captained by Kraigg Brathwaite, will engage in a two-day warm-up clash against Bangladesh on November 17 and 18 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. This preparatory match offers emerging players a rare platform to shine while allowing senior Test players to fine-tune their form.
Coach Nikita Miller will lead the coaching staff for the CWI Select XI, with additional support from pathway coach Pernel Watley. The team’s vice-captain, Justin Greaves, is expected to leverage this opportunity to further solidify his credentials.
“This match is not just preparation for the Test series but also an investment in the future of West Indies cricket,” emphasized Coley.
An electrifying schedule awaits fans
West Indies fans are gearing up for a jam-packed cricketing calendar, with matches spread across three formats. The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium will host the first Test starting November 22, while the iconic Sabina Park will set the stage for the second Test from November 30.
As the action shifts from Tests to ODIs and T20Is, cricket enthusiasts can expect thrilling encounters in venues such as Warner Park and Arnos Vale, ensuring widespread regional participation. ESPN Caribbean will broadcast the matches for fans in the West Indies, while Bangladesh viewers can tune in via the Toffee digital platform.
