KOLKATA, India – West Indies batting sensation Nicholas Pooran is set to return as a star player for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, reportedly sealing a hefty US$2 million-plus contract.
According to sources, the 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman recently visited the RPSG Group’s Kolkata office, where he inked a deal valued at INR 18 crores.
Pooran initially joined LSG in 2023 after being released by SunRisers Hyderabad and has since become a pivotal figure for the team, admired for his strategic mindset, flexibility in the batting order, and consistent scoring. An LSG official praised Pooran, describing him as a player with “a winning mindset and adaptability to any match situation.”
An impressive 2024 IPL season
Coming off an impressive 2024 IPL season where he amassed 499 runs—including 35 fours and 36 sixes—the left-handed Trinidadian has also set a record for the most T20 runs scored in a calendar year during the recent Caribbean Premier League. This performance has only cemented his reputation as a top T20 asset, making his retention by LSG a strategic move ahead of the upcoming season.
With Pooran on board, LSG will approach the 2025 auction with INR 69 crores remaining after retaining five players, including Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan, as they set their sights on a strong season.
