Jamaica has unveiled its squad for the upcoming Fast5 Netball World Series in New Zealand, featuring several new faces as key players from the Suncorp Super Netball League will be unavailable due to their club commitments in Australia.
Notably absent from the squad are stars like goalkeeper Shamera Sterling-Humphrey, prolific goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, and defensive stalwarts Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Latanya Wilson.
The 10-member team, set to represent Jamaica, includes Amanda Pinkney, Cornelia Walters, Kestina Sturridge, Kimone Shaw, Paula-Ann Burton, Roxanna McLean, Shadine Bartley, Simone Gordon, Tiffaney Langley, and Zaudi Green. The squad will be co-coached by Nardia Hansen and Dalton Hines.
A challenging schedule
The highly anticipated Fast5 World Netball Series will be held at Christchurch’s Wolfbrook Arena from November 9-10, where the world’s top six teams will compete. Jamaica, currently ranked fourth in the world, will face a challenging schedule, opening the tournament against second-ranked New Zealand. The Sunshine Girls will then meet the third-ranked England Roses before closing day one with a match against South Africa.
On day two, the Jamaicans will face two-time defending champions Australia, followed by Uganda. The top two teams from the group stage will advance to the final, while the next two will compete for third place.
Still in search of their first Fast5 title, Jamaica will be eager to build on their previous best finishes, having finished as runners-up in 2017 and 2018.
