Vindicated Busby thanks supporters, aims to elevate Reggae Girlz

In his first public address since being reappointed, Reggae Girlz head coach Hubert Busby Jr. spoke candidly at a press conference at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) about the sexual misconduct allegations that led to his suspension from the programme in 2021.

Busby described the period as challenging but emphasized that overwhelming support kept him going. He expressed gratitude for the support and reaffirmed his commitment to moving forward and helping the team achieve new heights.

Busby, who was vindicated of the allegations, stated that he believes even the accusations were part of a larger plan. “I wish it on no one. But it is the past. I have said it was not my plan but God’s plan. Sometimes you just have to have faith and see things through,” he said.

He explained his decision to remain silent publicly during the process out of respect for all parties involved. “I have never come out publicly and said anything, and that is because I also wanted to respect the process and respect those involved with it. But it was a difficult time I am not going to shrug it off. But it is in the past and it is important now to turn that page and sit in front of you knowing that the vindication is there.”

Significant support he received

Busby highlighted the significant support he received, which included backing from former ambassador Cedella Marley, her foundation, the coaching staff, and the players. “Through this process, I have had tremendous support from the former ambassador, her foundation, the coaching staff, and the players, and that was very important,” he said.

Looking ahead, Busby is focused on the future and his role in advancing the Reggae Girlz programme. “Now that we have all turned a page and have all moved on, I think it is important that we forge ahead into what is going to be a bright future for this programme. A platform has been set, and I have acknowledged all the people who have gone ahead and done it from before. I am a caretaker in this job, and when I was not in the job, I was providing support and doing what I can.”

He concluded by expressing his dedication to providing the best environment for the players and those committed to Jamaican football. “I just want to continue to do the best I can, surround myself with the best staff that I possibly can, and provide the environment for all these players and those who want Jamaica to have the best opportunity to do so,” he said.
