The 27-year-old Jamaican striker has been nominated for the prestigious accolade in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the league.

Shaw’s prolific goal-scoring prowess has been a cornerstone of Manchester City’s success this season, with her 21 league goals in 18 WSL appearances propelling the team to the top of the standings. Alongside goalkeeper Khiara Keating, Shaw has played a pivotal role in City’s ascent to the league summit, amassing 52 points and maintaining a three-point lead over reigning champions Chelsea.

Despite her season being cut short due to a broken foot sustained in a match against West Ham, Shaw’s impact on the pitch has been undeniable. Her impressive goal tally of 22 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions underscores her importance to the Manchester City squad.

I suffered a broken foot

Following her injury, Shaw expressed gratitude for the support she received, stating on Instagram: “Gutted to know I suffered a broken foot … but grateful the surgery went well. The greatest stories are those who defy all odds.”

Shaw’s remarkable campaign has been marked by several standout performances, including three memorable hat tricks. She delivered commanding displays against Tottenham, Everton, and Liverpool, showcasing her clinical finishing ability and cementing her status as one of the league’s top goal scorers.

In addition to her goal-scoring exploits, Shaw made history by becoming Manchester City’s all-time leading goalscorer, surpassing the previous record held by Georgia Stanway. Her impact on the field has earned her widespread recognition, with her nomination for the WSL Player of the Season award serving as a testament to her remarkable talent and contributions to the sport.
