The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has finalized a memorandum of understanding with the city of Stuttgart, Germany, to host a pre-Olympic training camp ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Selected Jamaican athletes preparing for the upcoming Olympics will travel to Germany to participate in a training camp aimed at completing the country’s preparations for the Games.
German ambassador to Jamaica, Jan Hendrik van Thiel, hailed the agreement as mutually beneficial, leveraging Jamaica’s track talent with German technology and facilities available in Stuttgart.
Difficulties in securing suitable facilities in France
JAAA treasurer Ludlow Watts explained that the decision to hold the training camp in Stuttgart arose due to difficulties in securing suitable facilities in France, where the Olympics will be held. Stuttgart’s facilities and transportation options to Paris made it an ideal choice for the JAAA.
With the agreement in place, the JAAA will be spared significant financial burdens, as hosting such a training camp could typically cost up to US$250,000.
The training camp in Stuttgart will be held from July 10 to July 21, after which the athletes will proceed to the Olympic Village in France, fully prepared for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
