A stunning strike from right-back Dexter Lembikisa propelled Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz to a third-place finish in the CONCACAF Nations League, securing a rare victory over Panama at the AT&T Stadium in Texas on Sunday.
Lembikisa’s debut goal for Jamaica came in the 41st minute of play and proved to be the decisive moment in a closely contested match between the two sides.
Despite an early dominance from Panama in the first 15 minutes, it was Jamaica who created the more dangerous opportunities, with Shamar Nicholson missing a clear chance in the 19th minute.
In the 41st minute, Michael Hector’s forward pass found Lembikisa, whose precise shot from 25 yards out curled into the top corner of the net, leaving the Panama goalkeeper with no chance.
Jamaica remained resolute in defense
Panama responded with attempts to equalize, including a close-range effort from José Luis Rodríguez, expertly saved by Jamaican goalkeeper Andre Blake.
In the second half, Jamaica remained resolute in defense while posing threats on the counter-attack through players like Demarai Gray and Hector.
Despite a few tense moments, neither side managed to create clear-cut chances, with a late scare from Panama’s Ismael Diaz’s shot ultimately missing the target.
The victory secured third place for Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League, capping off the tournament on a positive note for the Reggae Boyz.
