The 58th-minute strike from Dixon, who emerged as the leading scorer in the previous year’s schoolboy football season with over 40 goals, underscored his remarkable talent and potential on the field.

Assistant coach Merron Gordon praised Dixon’s debut performance, stating, “When you see a guy like Kaheim score on his debut, it is amazing. That is the type of thing we want to see, the transition from schoolboy football to international football and he acquitted himself well.”

Both teams creating opportunities

The match saw both teams creating opportunities, with Trinidad threatening early on through a long-range shot from Kaihim Thomas, well saved by Jamaican goalkeeping captain Kemar Foster. However, it was Dixon and Alex Marshall who proved to be Jamaica’s most influential players throughout the game.

After a tense first half where both teams had their moments, Dixon finally broke the deadlock in the second half. Capitalizing on an excellent through ball from Romeo Guthrie, Dixon showcased his skill by dismissing a defender and slotting home a shot past the goalkeeper.

Jamaica continued to assert dominance in the latter stages of the game, with Suelae McCalla and Jason Wright coming close to extending the lead. Despite Trinidad’s late surge, Jamaica held on to secure the victory.

Both teams met their objectives

Reflecting on the match, Gordon expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “Games like this are always tough. It was a good game. Both teams met their objectives, which was to expose these boys as much as possible and I thought we did that.”

Trinidad coach Angus Eve echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of providing valuable experience to his young players through such encounters.

Overall, Dixon’s debut goal marked a significant moment for Jamaica, highlighting the promising talent emerging from the schoolboy football circuit and signaling a bright future for the Reggae Boyz on the international stage.
