Amidst ongoing concerns, the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) persists in drawing attention to the inadequacies in educational resources available for children across the island.
JTA President Leighton Johnson has once again emphasized the insufficiency of funding allocated to schools.
Despite efforts to address the issue, Johnson asserts that the current financial support falls short of meeting the educational needs of Jamaican students.
Island-wide shortage of educators
Adding to the litany of challenges is the widespread scarcity of teachers. Johnson, speaking at the JTA’s 60th Anniversary media launch in Kingston, underscored the critical shortage of qualified educators across the nation.
This shortage, he contends, severely hampers the quality of education provided to Jamaican youth.
Addressing teacher migration
Johnson further emphasized the pressing need for a more robust compensation package for teachers.
Citing the persistent crisis of teacher migration, he emphasized the necessity of incentivizing educators to remain in Jamaica.
