Professor C. Justin Robinson, the newly appointed principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus in Antigua, has emphasized the pressing need for the regional institution to confront its financial challenges.
With a commitment to delivering top-notch education to Caribbean students, Professor Robinson believes that tackling the institution’s financial woes is paramount to ensuring its continued success.
Declining financial support
Professor Robinson revealed that over the past decade, UWI has experienced a notable decrease in financial support from Caribbean governments.
In 2013, these governments contributed approximately US$238 million to the university.
However, fast forward to the present day, and that figure has dwindled to approximately US$207 million, highlighting a significant financial shortfall.
