Flag installation ceremony marks the beginning

On Tuesday, the United Nations witnessed a symbolic ceremony as Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, formally installed the Guyana flag alongside those of other esteemed Security Council members. 

Complex challenges demand proactive council

Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett acknowledged the increasingly complex nature of the challenges facing the international community. 

She stressed that the Security Council must adapt to this changing landscape by adopting a proactive stance in addressing potential sources of conflict.

Prioritizing people-centered approaches

Guyana’s approach to its Security Council membership is rooted in a commitment to prioritize people and inclusivity. 

Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett emphasized that a people-centered approach, involving women and youth, will be at the core of Guyana’s efforts to find sustainable solutions to global security issues.
