As concerns continue to mount over the safety of automated banking machines (ABMs), Jamaicans are being encouraged to take proactive steps in holding local banks accountable, especially when their accounts fall victim to cybercrime at these ATM facilities.
Cybersecurity expert Gavin Dennis has sounded the alarm, asserting that financial institutions must significantly enhance their defenses against cybercriminals operating within these locations.
ABMs have become prime targets for cybercriminals and these attacks have left many customers grappling with unauthorized transactions, drained accounts, and the arduous process of recovering their stolen funds.
Responsibility of financial institutions
Dennis highlights the critical role that financial institutions play in safeguarding customers’ financial assets.
He underscored that customers often rely on the perceived security of ATMs provided by banks and expect them to uphold their end of the bargain when it comes to ensuring the safety of their transactions.
