Amid mounting concerns over the scarcity of cash at Automated Banking Machines (ABMs) across Jamaica, the Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA) has stepped forward with suggestions.
President of the Association, Audrey Tugwell, advises consumers to consider utilizing their debit cards and online banking services as viable alternatives to cash transactions. This move, she asserts, will help mitigate the cash flow crisis plaguing ABMs, especially during weekends.
ABM challenges spark concern
In recent times, discontent has been growing among Jamaicans due to the recurrent issue of insufficient cash availability at ABMs.
This predicament has elicited complaints and inconvenience among citizens, prompting the JBA to take action.
Promoting debit card usage for holiday shopping
Audrey Tugwell told Radio Jamaica news that discussions with various stakeholders are underway to address the cash flow crisis.
In the meantime, she encourages shoppers to explore alternative payment methods, emphasizing that many merchants equipped with point-of-sale terminals from various banks are ready to facilitate debit card transactions during the festive Christmas season.
Online banking: A convenient way to transfer funds
In addition to promoting debit card usage, the JBA is championing the use of online banking for both individual and business purposes.
Tugwell asserts that this digital platform can streamline fund transfers and financial transactions, providing a practical solution to the ongoing challenges faced by ABMs.
Cash flow crisis triggered by security concerns
Tugwell explains that recent incidents involving attacks on Beryllium security trucks and vandalism of ABMs have exacerbated the cash flow crisis, affecting ABMs throughout the island.
