The Jamaican Liaison Service in Canada has taken a step in advocating for the rights of a 30-year-old Jamaican farm worker who fell victim to a road incident in Westmoreland.
An attorney has been appointed to represent the worker’s legal interests following the incident that occurred on October 15, 2023.
Incident and aftermath
Reports are that while riding his bicycle, the farm worker was tragically struck by a vehicle driven by an individual reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
The collision resulted in severe injuries for the worker, including a leg injury demanding surgical intervention. After receiving the necessary medical treatment, the worker has been discharged from the hospital.
Ongoing support and oversight
The Jamaican Liaison Service is actively engaged with the situation, maintaining open lines of communication with both the injured worker and his family. They have committed to a vigilant oversight of the worker’s case, ensuring that his recuperation and legal proceedings are addressed with utmost attention and care.
The pursuit of justice is not only a matter of compensating for the losses but also an affirmation of the worker’s rights in a foreign land.
