Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago made their mark at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, with impressive performances in the 100m finals.
Guyana added silver and bronze medals to its collection. Jasmine Abrams showcased her sprinting prowess by winning the silver medal in the women’s 100m finals with a time of 11.52 seconds. She was narrowly edged out by Cuba’s Yunisleidy De La Caridad Garcia, who secured a dominant victory with a time of 11.36 seconds.
Trinidad and Tobago’s experienced sprinter, Michelle-Lee Ahye, was a close third, claiming the bronze medal with a time of 11.53 seconds.
A second medal for Guyana
Emmanuel Archibald, representing Guyana, continued the impressive showing by winning a second medal for his country. He secured the bronze medal in the men’s 100m final, clocking a time of 10.31 seconds. The thrilling race saw Jose Gonzales of the Dominican Republic clinch gold with a time of 10.30 seconds, while Brazil’s Felipe Bardi was awarded the silver medal, also with a time of 10.31 seconds.
Meanwhile. Jamaica’s Odaine McPherson, who eventually got a place in the final, finished seventh in 10.44v seconds.
These podium finishes showcased the talent and determination of athletes from Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on the international stage, leaving a mark at the Pan American Games.
