A Vice President from the renowned Sandals Group has been hospitalized after being stabbed several times during a break-in by an intruder on Monday.
The attack occurred in the Freeport area in Montego Bay, St. James.
Sudden attack post-work hours
Reports are that 73-year-old Donald Smith, Vice President of Sandals Group and the head of transportation, faced a harrowing ordeal shortly before 8 PM as he returned home from work.
It is reported that the intruder who broke into his apartment used a knife and attacked Smith’s upper body with several blows.
Swift response aids in recovery
Despite his injuries, Smith managed to contact a relative who alerted the police and ambulance.
He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Ongoing investigation
Superintendent Eron Samuels, leading the St. James Police force, confirmed the incident to Radio Jamaica News.
Detectives from the Montego Bay Criminal Investigations Branch are reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation into the matter.
