The women’s quarter-mile relay team gave Jamaica its 12th and final medal as the curtains came down on the 19th World Athletics Championships inside the National Athletics Centre in Budapest on Sunday.
The team comprising Candice McLeod, Janieve Russell, Nickisha Pryce and Stacey Ann Williams finished second in a season best 3:20.88 minutes behind The Netherlands with a World Leading 3:20.72 minutes.
Great Britain was third in 3:21.04 minutes, which was its season best.
Jamaica, who last won this event in 2015, appeared set to take gold with Williams looking all over a winner with a near seven-meter lead entering the last 100m of the event, but the 400m hurdles World Champion Femke Bol, who received the baton more than 10m behind in third place, produced a devastating late run to not only overtake the Great Britain anchor leg runner Ncole Yeargin, but a badly tiring Williams as well.
The silver medal handed Jamaica its 12th of the championships, a second best haul behind the 13 won in Berlin, Germany in 2009. It also equals, in identical fashion, the total won in 2019 in Doha.
Jamaica won three gold, five silver and four bronze medals and was second on total medals won and fifth on the Medal Table.
Men’s 4×400 Relay Highlights
The men’s 4x400m relay team was not as fortunate as they ran a season best of 2:59.34 minutes for fourth place.
The quartet was Rusheen McDonald, Roshawn Clarke, Zandrion Barnes and Antonio Watson.
The event was won in a World Leading 2:57.31 minutes by the US ahead of France in a National Record 2;558.45 minutes, with Great Britain in third place in 2:58.71 minutes, also a season best.

Women’s 800m Final Highlights
Jamaica’s Adelle Tracey produced another personal best when she ran 1:58.41 minutes for seventh place in the women’s 800m final.
Kenya’s Mary Moraa won in a lifetime best 1:56.03 minutes in a close finish with Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain second in 1:556.34 minutes and American Athing Mu third in 1:56.61, her best time for the year so far.
Women’s High Jump Final Highlights
Meanwhile, LAmara Distin of Jamaica gave a creditable performance in the women’s high jump when she soared to 1.94m to finish in fifth place.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine won with a leap of 2.01m ahead of the Australian pair of Eleanor Patterson in a season best 1.99m and Nicola Olyslagers, also with 1.99m.
