Martinique cruise sector reports record-breaking growth

Martinique’s cruise industry is on a record-setting trajectory, with passenger arrivals surging nearly 11 percent for the 2024–2025 season. More than 465,000 travelers embarked or disembarked on the island, compared with roughly 421,000 the previous year, according to the Martinique Tourism Authority. The increase came across more than 200 ship calls, cementing the island’s status as one of the Caribbean’s fastest-growing cruise hubs.

The growth coincides with a major development: MSC Cruises has confirmed it will resume year-round operations in Martinique beginning in 2027, marking the first time in years the island will host summer homeport operations. The MSC Opera will launch itineraries from Fort-de-France in the winter 2026/2027 season and continue through summer 2027.

“These numbers represent more than growth. They demonstrate how Martinique is evolving into a must-visit Caribbean destination,” said Muriel Wiltord, Director of the Americas for the Martinique Tourism Authority. “The return of year-round cruising operations validates our strategic investments in infrastructure and the guest experience.”

This upcoming season, Martinique is set to welcome vessels from more than 30 cruise lines across its eight ports, including nearly all major brands from Europe, the United Kingdom and North America. Ships of all sizes — from boutique to mega-ships and across contemporary, premium and ultra-luxury segments — are scheduled to call, reinforcing Martinique’s rising global profile.

Infrastructure upgrades are keeping pace with the growth. The Grand Port Maritime de la Martinique recently completed a new passenger walkway at the Pointe Simon terminal, while a new cruise village with kiosks for artisans, tour operators, taxi services and other businesses is slated to open by October.

“Martinique’s cruise sector continues to evolve with a strong focus on sustainability, quality experiences and local community impact,” Wiltord added. “These results lay the foundation for an even more dynamic future as we prepare for year-round operations.”

With record arrivals, major infrastructure investments, and MSC Cruises’ commitment to year-round deployment, Martinique is positioning itself as a key force in Caribbean cruise tourism.
